The Business Support
Center (BSC) mobilizes professional education, training
and research programmes of the Institute of
Business Management, for serving the corporate sector to
enhance both its profitability and contribution to the
society. Support is provided in the areas of banking and
finance, marketing, human resource development, and
information systems management.
The BSC has well developed physical
facilities including a spacious and well-equipped
auditorium and conference rooms, a state-of-the-art
computer lab and an information resource centre.
The Business Support Center places
emphasis on in-house research through its well-educated
and experienced faculty and a strong body of over 2300 students.
Under the auspices of the Business
Support Center Finance,
Marketing, HR and IT Societies of IoBM arrange regular
seminars in which leading professionals from Corporate
sector of Pakistan are invited to share their
experiences with the students, faculty and guests.

The
College of Business Management offers The CFA®
Advantage to students seeking Finance majors in their
MBA program. The globally acknowledged Chartered
Financial Analyst program is administered by US based
Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR).
The CFA Track
of CBM delivers higher quality to the business
management program, by adopting the entire curriculum of
the CFA program's Level I and Level II examinations.
Secondly, the MBA (Finance majors) graduates of CBM, who
have successfully completed the CFA Track’s elective
courses, would be well equipped to pass the CFA Level I
and II exams, if they wish to do so.
There are over
42,000 CFA charter holders the world over, including
about 55 from Pakistan. Every year, more than 65,000
candidates the world over write CFA Level I, II or III
exams, including more than 600 each year, from Pakistan.
All these exams are conducted by AIMR of USA once a year
in the first week of June, at over 75 locations the
world over simultaneously, including Karachi and Lahore.
The CFA Track
of CBM offers 4 finance electives structured around the
CFA Level I and II exam curriculum. These are all
sequential courses and the various textbooks from which
reading material of these courses belong, are the same
as prescribed by the AIMR. The description of these 4
finance elective courses are as follows:
1.
Foundations of Financial Analysis: This is the first
course that is based on CFA Level I exam curriculum.
Starting from Ethical and Professional Standards and
then quantitative methods, this course takes
students through macro and microeconomics framework.
Major part of the course
familiarizes students with the concepts of Financial
Statement Analysis, Corporate Finance, various types
and markets of financial assets including
alternative investments and portfolio management.
2.
Fundamentals of Asset Valuation and Portfolio
Management: This is the second course based on CFA
Level I curriculum, with the first course
"Foundations of Financial Analysis"
serving as the pre-requisite. The contents of
"Fundamentals of Asset Valuation and Portfolio
Management" cover topics like corporate
investing and financing decisions; financial markets
and instruments; equity, debt, derivative and
alternative investments, capital market theory and
operations.
3. Advance
Financial Analysis: First 2 courses of the CFA Track
serve as pre-requisites for this course
"Advance Financial Analysis". This is the
first course that is based on CFA Level II exam
curriculum, and also starts from Ethical and
professional standards, quantitative methods for
valuation and economic evaluation. The major part of
this course is however, the advance concepts of
financial statement analysis, including
inter-corporate investments and business
combinations, global issues, special topics and
considerations in financial statement analysis.
4. Advance
Asset Valuation and Portfolio Management: The first
3 courses of the CFA Track serve as pre-requisites
for this course "Advance Asset Valuation and
Portfolio Management". This is the second
course that is based on CFA Level II exam
curriculum. It exposes the students to the topics
like industry and company analysis; valuation
models; special valuation cases, valuation
perspectives and applications in equity investments;
credit analysis, valuation issues, structured
securities and trading strategies of debt
investments, futures, swaps and options, alternative
investments, capital markets and asset pricing
models and practices.
