Prof. Dr. Javed A. Ansari

Prof. Dr. Javed A. Ansari has a Masters from the University of Karachi, an MSc from London School of Economics and a Ph.D from University of Sussex. His research interests include financial and industrial economics, modern capitalism and modernist and postmodern political and moral philosophy. He has worked in British universities, UN agencies and financial institutions in Pakistan.

FACULTY OF CBM

Muhammad Ashraf Janjua-The Dean 

Muhammad Ashraf Janjua, Senior Fellow with the rank of Professor (Economics) and Acting Dean of CBM, holds M.A. (Economics) degree from Government College, Lahore (Punjab University) and M.A.
(Development Economics) from Williams College, Mass. U.S.A. He has done one-year graduate work at Stanford University, California, U.S.A. He also worked in the office of Executive Director for Pakistan at IMF, Washington D.C. from 1979 to 1983. Before joining State Bank of Pakistan in 1966 he has been a Research Economist in the Pakistan Institute of Development Economist (PIDE) and Associate Editor of Pakistan Development Review (PDR), Deputy Governor (Policy) from 1992 to 95 and subsequently Chief Economic Advisor, State Bank of Pakistan from 1995 to 2004. Among other research work, he is the author of History of State Bank of Pakistan Volume-III (1977-88) and Volume-IV (1988-2003).

Talib S. Karim

Talib S. Karim, Executive Director Academics Corporate Affairs and Business Support Center, has a Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering and a Masters in Economics with specialization in International Trade, both from the University of Arizona, USA. He has worked for a financial institution for ten years before joining the Institute full time in 1997. He has also taught Economics at the University of Arizona, USA and IoBM.

Accounting and Finance

H. Jamal Zubairi

H. Jamal Zubairi, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics has a B.E. degree from Dawood College of Engineering & Technology and MBA from IBA, Karachi. He also holds Banking Diploma from the Institute of Bankers, Pakistan. He possesses over 30 years of professional experience, mainly as a development banker with National Development Finance Corporation and at other leading financial institutions. He has been teaching core, as well as elective courses, in Finance and Accounting at various business schools for over 15 years. His research interests are in the areas of Banking, Risk Management and Corporate Finance.

Syed Ajaz Ahmed

Syed Ajaz Ahmed, Senior Fellow of Finance and Accounting. He is a fellow member of ICMAP and has qualified final examination of the ICMAP in 1976. He has served for 32 years in national and multinational Corporations and has headed finance and accounts department in various industrial sectors, including construction, food and beverages and petrochemicals. Mr. Ajaz has also worked for investment banking, shipping and textile sectors. Before joining IoBM as full-time member, he has been an adjunct faculty  member at ICMAP and facilitator of ICAP.

Sharique Ayubi

Sharique Ayubi, Assistant Professor of Accounting, Finance and Economics, has Masters in Business Administration from IBA and MA in Economics from the University of Karachi. He also holds a Banking Diploma from the Institute of Bankers. Currently, he is enrolled in MS/PhD program at ZABIST. His experience in industry has been in National Development Finance Corporation, where he has worked for 14 years. He has over 10 years of teaching experience at various universities. He teaches Accounting, Finance and Management and his research interests are Corporate Governance and Regulation of Banking and Securities Markets, and Comparative Management.

Syed Maqbool ur Rehman

Syed Maqbool ur Rehman, Assistant Professor in Accounting and Finance, is an investment banker turned educationist with MBA from IBA. He has also received a diploma in banking from the Institute of
Bankers in Pakistan. He has worked with reputed financial institutions for 18 years in operational areas at senior management positions. He has been teaching since 1989 at various business schools. His research
interest includes Risk Management, Compliance of IAS by local industry, Corporate Governance and Financial Markets.

Saghir Muhammad

Saghir Muhammad, Senior Lecturer in Information Systems, holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration with specialization in Management Information Systems. He possesses a diploma in Computer Science and specialized diploma in DBMS. Moreover, he has done management courses from NIPA and NILAT. His industry experience has been in Pakistan Steel Mills and Orasoft. He has over ten years of teaching experience at various universities/institutes.

Misbah Iqbal,

Misbah Iqbal, Lecturer in Accounting, has a BBA (Hons) and MBA in Finance from College of Business Management. She teaches Accounts and Finance and is also involved in internal auditing of the Institute.

Asiya Shirazi

Asiya Shirazi, Lecturer in Finance, has an MBA degree in finance from College of Business Management and has five years of work experience as Credit Officer/Risk Analyst in a leading commercial bank. She has
undergone various training programs in the risk management function of a bank. She also obtained Banking Diploma in 2005 from the Institute of Bankers, Pakistan. Her research interest is in the areas of banking & finance.

Samina Riaz

Samina Riaz, Instructor Accounting, has done her MBA in Finance from Bahria University. Her research interest is in the area of Banking and Financial Accounting. She has also done Financial Analysis on different banks’ statements. Moreover, she has keen interest in event management and intends to pursue Ph.D in Accounting.

 

Communication

Dr. K. M. Larik

Dr. K. M. Larik, is a Senior Fellow and Head of the Department of English and Business Communication. He is M.Phil and Ph.D in English from the University of Sindh. He has been associated with the University of Leeds, U.K and the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A in connection with collection of research material for his M.Phil and Ph.D. Dr. Larik is a recipient of three gold medals and a silver medal. He has over 40 years of administrative-cum-academic experience, having worked mostly at the University of Sindh with his last position as Dean, Faculty of Arts.

Ms. Zehra Habib

Ms. Zehra Habib, Assistant Professor in Business Communication has a Masters in English Literature from the University of Karachi and a Masters in TESOL from American University, Washington D.C USA. She has vast experience of teaching English Literature and Language at St. Joseph's College, Karachi and has also served in the capacity of Head of the Department of English in that institution. She is the recipient of two awards fro the college for academic excellence and has also received a cash award from the Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad for academic excellence and services rendered to the college. Her areas of interest in research include Second Language Acquisition, and Native and Non-Native English speaker's dichotomy.

Ms. Fareeda Ibad

Ms. Fareeda Ibad, Senior Fellow, Communication Skills has a Masters degree in English Literature. She is also a certified IELTS & ICFE examiner. She has twenty seven years experience teaching Business Communication at both bachelors and masters levels, including nine years experience as Visiting Faculty at IoBM. She has conducted several workshops on (ELT) English Language Teaching for teachers. Her paper on “Testing in English Language Teaching” has also been published in a professional journal.

Tazeen Erum

Tazeen Erum, Senior Lecturer in Business Communication, is a Master’s Degree holder in English Literature from the University of Karachi. She has work experience in journalism, advertising and education. Her forte is teaching of English language at both secondary and tertiary levels. She has also been Principal, along with being a General English teacher, at a reputed A-Level school in Karachi for three years. She has been a visiting faculty member at the University of Karachi. She is a regular contributor to South Asia, a monthly magazine on economic and political issues in the region.

Muhammad Asif Khan

Muhammad Asif Khan, Lecturer Communication, is an M.A in English Literature and Linguistics from the University of Karachi. He has a rich experience of teaching English and communication related subjects to various categories of students ranging from intermediate and A-levels to BBA and MBA. His areas of interest include TESL, Business Communication and Interpersonal Skills. He is also a contributor to the Pakistan Business Review (PBR), where his interviews with the prominent personalities of the corporate world are published. In future he plans to pursue his M.Phil in the area of HRD.

Samra Javed

Samra Javed, Instructor of English, has a Masters degree in English Language and Literature from Government College, Lahore. She has recently completed In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching (Cambridge University, UK). She has worked as the Academic Coordinator of the Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers. She also presented a paper at the International Conference of SPELT, on the topic of ICELT – A Gateway to Success.

Syeda Mahtab Fatima

Syeda Mahtab Fatima, Instructor in Arabic and Islamic Studies, has M.A from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and B.A B.Ed from University of Punjab, Lahore. Her last assignment was as Islamiat and Arabic teacher.

Khulood Mazhar Khan

Khulood Mazhar Khan, Instructor in Business Communication. She has done her Masters in English Literature from the University of Karachi. She has five years teaching experience at intermediate level at Aga Khan Higher Secondary School along with three years serving as visiting faculty member at the University of Karachi.She has also worked as the curriculum designer for Aga Khan Schools Network. Moreover, she has been conducting workshops on the teaching of English at various levels.

Economics

Mr. Syed Muhammad Nasir

  Mr. Syed Muhammad Nasir, Senior Fellow, Economics has Masters Degrees in Economics from University of Karachi , University of Oregon , USA , and Lakeland University , Canada . He has also worked towards a Ph.D in Economics at McGill University , Canada . He is an author of two books on creative fiction. Served as Head of Economics Department in Nigeria , in an advanced level institution. Also worked as Vice President Training and Asst. Vice President, Economics Division of NDFC. Has attended numerous seminars and workshops, including a seminar in Washington D.C and NDP’s workshop in Colombo .

Mirza Aqeel Baig

  Mirza Aqeel Baig, Lecturer in Economics, has a Masters degree in Applied Economics from AERC. His second Masters degree is in International Relations. He has over seven years teaching experience at various Business institutions. His research interests are in the areas of International Trade, Macro Economics and Econometrics. His research papers have been published in PBR and journals of the Statistics Department of the University of Karachi.

Syed Ghayyur Alam

  Syed Ghayyur Alam, Lecturer in Economics, holds an M.A in Economics from University of Karachi as well as Masters of Applied Sciences (MAS) in Economics from AERC, University of Karachi. His research interests include Macro Economics and International Trade.

Mazhar Rafi

Mazhar Rafi, Lecturer in Economics, has an M.Sc in Economics from the University of Karachi and MBA in International Finance from McGill University, Montreal, Canada and went on to add the related disciplines’ Diplomas and Certifications such as DEP Accounting, ASP Finance and GAP Insurance also from Canada, to form a sound base in the field of business.

Syed Zia Abbas Rizvi

  Syed Zia Abbas Rizvi, Instructor in Economics, has done his M.Sc in Economics from the University of Karachi and MAS in Economics from Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC). Currently, he is doing his M.Phil from AERC.

Sabika Jaffar

  Sabika Jaffar, Student Counselor, holds a Masters Degree in Economics working on the final project for M.Com (Finance). She possesses one year diploma in teaching through computer from Intel and one year certification in practical teacher’s training from the Society of Pakistan’s English Language Teachers (SPELT). She possesses more than five years teaching experience with the well known
institutions and has also worked at an administrative capacity.

Health & Hospital Management

Dr. Muhammad Arshad Malik

  Dr. Muhammad Arshad Malik, Advisor Health and Hospital Management, is a retired Federal Secretary to the Government of Pakistan. He is MBBS and joined Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP) in 1957 and studied Public Administration at Oxford University (England). He has held senior positions, including Secretary Health, in various Ministries/Departments and Organizations from 1959-1995. He had also been Professor of Government and Management Sciences at a reputable University. He was recently elected a Senior Associate Member at St. Anthony’s College, Oxford University, England.
  Industrial Engineering

Dr. Mohammad Irshad Khan

  Dr. Mohammad Irshad Khan, Senior Fellow, with the rank of Professor, holds a Ph.D degree in Chemical Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma from University of Bradford UK. He has over 30 years experience of Industry and Management and is a registered consultant of Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah and SMEDA, Pakistan.

Dr. Mufaddal Mirza

  Dr. Mufaddal Mirza is serving as an Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management and enjoys teaching Production Management, Total Quality Management and Business Process Reengineering. He has earned MS in Chemical Engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit-MI and Ph.D. in Food Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne, USA. He has acquired academic research/teaching experience at WSU, UIUC, Technical University of Nova Scotia and Acadia University. Dr. Mirza possesses Total Quality Process Engineering & Management experience via professional association with Illinois State Geological Survey, Exxon Chemicals, Procter & Gamble and Pepsi. Mufaddal and his Total Quality Students have developed an Innovative Process of Total Quality Life Maintenance to transform individual, family and professional corporate life to TQ Life. His research interests are Lean Engineering, TQLM, BPR, Six Sigma and Entrepreneurial Education System. 

Asif Iqbal

  Asif Iqbal, Assistant Professor, Industrial Engineering has Masters degree in Computer Science from Depaul University, Chicago, Illinois and B.E in Electrical Engineering from NED University, Karachi with 12 years working experience and 3 years teaching experience.
 Marketing 

Shahnaz Meghani

  Shahnaz Meghani, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Marketing, has Masters in Business Administration from IBA. Her industry experience has been in FMCGs sector. She has worked for multinationals and has been associated with training for more than 18 years. She has published research papers on employee motivation, organizational culture, product failures and on the
influence of chemists on end users.

Syed Munir Ahmed

 

Syed Munir Ahmed, Assistant Professor in the Department of Marketing, has done his MBA with specialization in Marketing from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has 16 years professional experience and has also taught marketing related courses at California State University, Los Angeles, and in Pakistani Universities. His industry experience is in FMCG Companies where he served as Marketing, Sales and Training Manager.

Maliha Murtaza Khan

Maliha Murtaza Khan, is a Lecturer, Marketing and Management and Senior Officer at Business Support Center (BSC). She has done her BBA (Hons.) and MBA in Marketing from College of Business Management. Being a Certified Trained Trainer by the School of Leadership (SOL), she has conducted training sessions individually and in assistance with senior trainers. She is among the senior
members of the Business Support Center where her key responsibilities are conducting & coordinating training programs, organizing aptitude and recruitment tests and also managing publications associated with the Center.

Umair Zia

Umair Zia, Senior Lecturer Marketing, has an MBA from IBA and Bsc in naval sciences from Karachi University. He has 18 years work experience including 7 years teaching/training and development. He has worked as Head of the Department Human Resource Management Cell, Pakistan Navy. His work experience includes senior managerial jobs in Pakistan Navy, NADRA, Trendtex Textile and Citizen Foundation. His exposure in Marketing includes 3 years in publishing industry.
Management and HRM

Javaid Ahmed

Javaid Ahmed is Associate Professor and Departmental Head of Management and HRD. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), Fellow of the Institute of Management(UK), Member of Mensa and a UK Chartered Engineer. He has a Masters Degree in Business with distinction from Lancaster, a BScEng(London), and a BAEcon(Pb). He brings to academia over 28 years of a successful senior management experience with the multinational health care industry including over a decade in Switzerland, Malaysia and the Philippines. He conducts Management Development Workshops for IoBM and the British Council/ICI center and has consulted for the AKU and HBL. He is research active in corporate and market strategy and has supervised CBM’s M.Phil Marketing program. He has done strategy consulting, has written two research based dissertations, co-authored the SBP transformation case 2005 and published thirteen papers and articles.

Dr. Muhammad Fashiul Alam

Dr. Muhammad Fashiul Alam, is a Senior Research Fellow in Management and HRM. He holds Post-Doctoral research from SOAS, London University, UK and a Ph.D from Punjab University, Chandrigarh, India. He has 30 years experience of teaching. He has a vast research experience and has presented various research publications and papers in seminar.

Abdul Qadir Molvi

Abdul Qadir Molvi, Associate Professor of Management, has specialized in sales management training, marketing and strategy for the corporate clients. He has earned a Professional Diploma in International Trade and Commerce from UC Berkeley, (USA), MBA (IBA, Karachi), and BSc from the University of Karachi. He has over 33 years marketing experience of pharmaceutical and consumer products with leading MNCs. He was elected to the Council of the Marketing Association of Pakistan (1996-98) and served as its Vice President in 1998. He was invited to lecture on international marketing to the classes of Brand Management 1999 at Fullerton College, California USA.

Maqsood Ahmed

Maqsood Ahmed, Senior Fellow, of Management and HRM has Masters degree in Business Administration from IBA and Post Graduate in Advertising and Sales Promotion from U.K. He has over 40 years of senior level corporate career in marketing, corporate development and general management with a Swiss Health Care multinational & other pharmaceutical and FMCG companies in
Pakistan. After his corporate career, he opted for venturing in an academic environment to channel his energies to contribute his industry experience in teaching. As a certified professional trainer and known in the industry for his contribution, his interest now is in the area of human resource development.

Shagufta Rafif Ghauri

Shagufta Rafif Ghauri, Senior Lecturer, Management and HRM, holds a Masters degree in Human Resource Management and brings along a vast experience of teaching different management subjects and Business English courses to various categories of students ranging from O and A Levels to BBA, MBA and MBA (Executive). She has also served in the capacity of Vice Principal at a reputed O Level School in Karachi for 3 years. She had been faculty member of different universities of Karachi and had also been conducting courses and training workshops at Teacher Resource Centre.

Mr. Ghulam Ahmad Shaida

Mr. Ghulam Ahmad Shaida, Senior Fellow, Management has an MBA degree from IBA and MAS (Economics) from University of Karachi . He also has Diplomas in Electronics and Radar Engineering from PAF College of Aeronautical Engineering and PAF School of Electronics. Has forty three years of experience which includes management consultancy and teaching as a visiting faculty at IBA.
Mathematics

Dr. Syed Iftikhar Ali

Dr. Syed Iftikhar Ali, Senior Fellow with the rank of Professor, holds M.S. and Ph.D from England. He has a vast teaching experience and worked for SUPARCO, University of Benghazi (Libya), FAST Institute of Computer Science (Karachi) and Yanbu Industrial College, Saudi Arabia. He is a chartered Physicist and Member of Institute of Physics (London). His main interests are in the areas of Mathematics, Physics and Numerical Analysis.

Wajahat Ali

Wajahat Ali, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics, has an M.Sc from the University of Karachi. He teaches Mathematics and Statistics and looks after aspects of research conducted in these fields.

Rizwan Ahmed

Rizwan Ahmed, Lecturer, Mathematics and Statistics, has done his M.Sc in Statistics and MPA (Finance) from the University Karachi. He has also done his MAS (Applied Economics) from Applied Economics Research Center, University of Karachi. He has six years of teaching experience at various institutes. His areas of interest are Quantitative Analysis for Business and Management, Statistical
Inference, Macroeconomics, Mathematical Economics and Business Finance.

Muhammad Arshad Jafer

Muhammad Arshad Jafer, Lecturer, Statistics & Mathematics, has done his MS in Maths from LUMS and MSC Maths from the University Karachi. He has 2 years teaching experience at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

Khurram Raza

Khurram Raza, Instructor in Mathematics, has done his MSc in pure and applied
Mathematics from the University of Sindh. He has six years of teaching experience
undergraduate courses in various institutes.

Ms. Hina Samreen

Ms. Hina Samreen, Instructor, Mathematics has MSc in Applied Mathematics and Masters in Applied Economics from University of Karachi . She is actively involved in research related work and assisted Pakistan Institute of Labor Education and Research in the development and preparation of different policy papers in labor management and allied subjects.

Social Sciences

Dr. Sahib Khan Channa

Dr. Sahib Khan Channa, Senior Fellow, has Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Law, Master of Arts and Doctorate degrees from the University of Sindh and Post-Doctorate in Political Science from the Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, USA. He has over 40 years of administrative, teaching and research experience, having served as Professor and Principal of some prestigious colleges of Karachi, besides holding various senior level positions in Education Department, Government of Sindh. He retired from Government service after serving in BPS-21 from April 1995 to July 2001. Recognized as prominent historian/writer of Sindh by literary circles within the country and abroad, Prof. Channa has contributed a number of research articles to renowned research journals published by different departments/institutes of Sindh University. He has remained a member of the Senate, Syndicate and Selection Board of the University of Karachi, also a member of the Senate of almost all the public universities of Sindh as well as member of Board of Governors of all the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Sindh. His research interests are in West, Central and South Asian political and strategic studies.

Asad Shahzad

Asad Shahzad, Lecturer in Social Sciences, has done his MA in English Literature from the University of Karachi. He has received intensive training from SPELT under Cambridge University. He has taught at several educational institutions before joining IoBM. He writes for different newspapers on religious, political and social issues.

Sadia A. Ansari

Sadia A. Ansari, Instructor in Psychology, earned her post-doctoral diploma in Clinical Psychology from Bahria University & Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Karachi. She is an M.Phil. student at the University of Karachi. She has more than two years of clinical experience at various reputable organizations: at Liaquat National Hospital as Neuropsychologist, and as clinical psychologist at Al-Murtaza School of network. She has conducted various seminars & workshops at AMS. She possesses a keen interest in research, and has contributed to various research projects at the University of Karachi.

Nadia Ayub Ali

Nadia Ayub Ali, Instructor in Psychology, has done her Masters in Psychology from the University of Karachi. She has done her specialization in career counseling and human behavior and has taught in several different educational institutions before joining IoBM. She has just completed a research project on Community Health Sciences at the Aga Khan University & Hospital.

Dr. Ahmer S. Karim - ADVISOR

Dr. Ahmer S. Karim, Advisor, College of Computer Science and Information Systems (CCSIS), has a Ph.D and Masters degrees from Arizona State University, USA, preceded by Bachelor of Science in Finance and MIS from the University of Arizona, USA. He has over nine years teaching experience at the University of San Diego, USA. He has published in Decision Sciences, Information and Management and also other academic conference proceedings. Dr. Karim has also published several academic books on Information Systems.

Dr. Ejaz Ahmed

Dr. Ejaz Ahmed, Professor of Statistics and Head of Computer Science, has done his Ph.D in Statistics from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK and M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Karachi. He has published many research articles in renowned international journals. He has over 27 years of teaching experience at the University of Karachi and IBA.

Dr. Abu Turab Alam

Dr. Abu Turab Alam, Professor of Computer Science, joined the Institute in January 2004 and is currently teaching courses in Artificial Intelligence, Automata Theory, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Discrete Mathematics and Management Information Systems. His research interest is in Requirements Engineering and elicitation of software requirements for Software Development using NLP techniques. He has a vast experience of research and teaching in various organizations such as SUPARCO, PCSIR, NED, IBA and Hamdard University. In the NED University, he has worked as a Systems Manager and improved the IT infrastructure of the university.

Khalid Bin Muhammad

Khalid Bin Muhammad, Senior faculty Computer Science, has a degree of Bachelor of Engineering from N.E.D University and is a member of Pakistan Engineering Council. He possesses a Masters in Computer Science form University of Karachi and an MBA in Banking & Finance from M.A Jinnah University with first class first position. He has proficiency in Programming Languages specially Object Oriented Programming, Computer Graphics, Engineering Drawings, Computer aided designing, Multimedia Technologies, Relational Database Management Systems and Finance related courses.

Muhammad Atif Ur Rahman

Muhammad Atif Ur Rahman is a Lecturer and position holder in MS in Computer Science from NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi. He has also done Bachelors in Engineering from the same University. He has more than 5 years teaching experience in reputed and well-known institutions. He has a good exposure in Digital Circuit Design and Computer Architecture. He intends to do research in the area of Robotics, Machine Learning and Human Computer Interaction.

Kashif Majeed Shah

Kashif Majeed Shah, Lecturer in Computer Science, has hands-on experience in database construction, administration for OLTP processing and Software development in Industry. He has worked in SG Fiber Ltd. as a Senior Software Engineer. He has been teaching for the last four years in various institutions and universities. His area of interests includes Cryptography, Data Warehousing and Data Mining. He holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Karachi. He is currently enrolled in MS leading to Ph.D program from national University of Computing and Emerging
Sciences.

Amar Khan

Amar Khan, Lecturer in Computer Science, holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Karachi. He is also a Microsoft Certified Professional.
