  RESOURCES AND FACILITIES


 

Institute of Business Management has a purpose built nine acre campus located in a serene and secure surroundings of Korangi Creek, Karachi. The Business College building covers an area of 74,000 sq. ft.; it has been equipped with state of the art teaching equipment to enable the Institute to keep pace with the dynamic movement of the global market. All classrooms are equipped with access to the internet and intranet. The new campus buildings are centrally air-conditioned and they all have been self financed with no outside assistance or donation. A separate centrally air-conditioned modern Administration and Business Support Center building, with a covered area of 20,000 sq.ft. was completed in 2001 with addition to another floor of 10,000 sq.ft., underway. Another centrally air-conditioned building with a covered area of 25,000 sq.ft. to house the College of Computer Science and Information Systems is in operation since 2002. The Convocation Center was completed in November 2002, and the Students Activity Center building in September 2003 with construction of a second floor to house 10 faculty residential suites for visiting scholars, which is expected to be completed by August 2005. Library building is completed and is in operation since January 2005. The Institute provides students with subsidized transportation to and from the campus through conveniently located pick and drop points all over Karachi. Girls are provided this facility to and from their homes. The campus also provides ample car parking facilities

 

 

  Computer Facilities

 

One of the strengths of the IoBM program is the incorporation of information technology as a key component of the curriculum. The academic programs offered by the Institute require students to obtain hands on experience on computers and develop high level of expertise in this field. The Information Systems Department (ISD) of the College of Computer Science and Information Systems provides administrative, networking and technical support to the faculty and students. The new I.T. building which houses the College of Computer Science and Information Systems, includes a number of computer laboratories having over two hundred workstations. It is fully equipped with satellite/ radio-linked e-mail and internet facilities for all students, faculty and staff.

 

 
   Library


IoBM library resource includes a large number of books, journals, periodicals and reference materials. It is being developed to cater to the needs of students and faculty. Latest editions of textbooks are available to the students to use as reference material. A new basement plus four story building to accommodate 350 students and 100,000 books are ready. Students would be provided with internet workstations and rooms for group studies.

  Students Council
 


Each society selects two representatives and they jointly constitute the Students Council which coordinates student activities. The President of the Students Council is an ex-officio member of the Board of Studies and the Disciplinary Committee of the college.
 

 
  Students Societies
 


There are eight students societies: Marketing, Finance, MIS, HRM , Sports, Debating, Entertainment and Publications and Dramatics. They actively participate in the organization of seminars and workshops. An executive lecture program, organized jointly by students and faculty, provides opportunities for exchange of ideas and opinions with leaders in business and government. Students have participated in a number of national and local inter-college debates and have won trophies. Students have organized successful cultural events such as dramas, ghazal singing competitions, milad and melas to promote the Institute. They have also participated in blood donation drives and collection of funds for handicapped students.
 

 
  Sports Facilities
 

Sports play an important role in the development of one’s personality. IoBM’s cricket, football and table tennis teams have performed well in various tournaments and have brought laurels to the Institute. A state of the art Students Activity Center is complete with dining facilities for 300 students, staff and faculty. A billiard room, table tennis, carom and chess room along with fully equipped gymnasium is also available for students and faculty. The facility also includes students and faculty lounges, girls common room and a book store. 

Outdoor Basketball and Volleyball courts have also been constructed and are now ready for use. A fully air-conditioned Squash Court would be ready by December 2005

 

 
  Dining Facilities
 


T
he Student Activity Center with fully equipped Dining Hall and Kitchen have been completed and is in operation since September 2003. There is a self serving Dining Hall which offers hot and cold meals at subsidized rates throughout the day. Lunch and snacks from international fast food chains can be enjoyed in a relaxing and informal atmosphere in the air conditioned dining hall. It is a place where students get an opportunity to interact not only with their colleagues but also with the faculty on an informal basis.

IoBM has extensive links with the business community and many business associations, firms and banks are among its sponsors. IoBM has also developed links with foreign business schools, and faculty members from American, Candian, and British universities have served on the faculty of the Institute. Institutional links with foreign business schools in USA, UK and Canada are being developed rapidly.
 

 
  Counseling and Advisory Services
 


IoBM offers a variety of services which assist students in making sound career decisions. These help students to select and define career alternatives and identify prospective industries and employers. Guidance is provided on skills and strategies essential for effective job search. These skills and strategies include letter writing, resume development and interview techniques.

In December 2004, IoBM held its seventh Convocation, when degrees were awarded to 135 MBA, 7 MCS, 56 BCS, 141 BBA (Honors), & 1 BS (J) students. The chief guest on the occasion was
Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, Governor Sindh. Mr. Hameed Haroon, Chief Executive Officer, DAWN Group of Newspapers was the key note speaker.
