Amid the directives of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of observing anti-corruption awareness drive in universities across Pakistan, students of Public Relations (Fall Semester 2018) at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), organized an event. Students were enthusiastically carrying placards with the insignia of HEC, NAB and IoBM along with the objective of organizing this anti-corruption awareness drive. It was commendable to witness the zeal of students to participate in this activity which set an example for others to follow.
Invited was Dr. Shahid Amjad, Director Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and HoD, Environment and Energy Management Department, IoBM. He stressed upon creating awareness about the menace of corruption that is rooted and rampant in our society. He advised students to identify the root cause of corruption and that steps taken by the leaders to eradicate corruption will eventually be followed by the masses. He said cheating is also a form of corruption and that students must be honest when giving examinations, preparing their assignments or research papers because plagiarism and copying ideas is also a form of corruption. Later, Mr. Muhammad Misbahuddin, Advisor to ED Admin on HR, Purchase and General Administration, IoBM and Mr. Riaz Akbar Contractor, Proctor, Manager Sports and Students Affairs, IoBM also joined this occasion.
Students in their touching speeches followed in letter and spirit the theme of Mr. Parvez Jamil, their faculty and HoD Public Affairs, IoBM, who convincingly emphasized on the importance of inculcating awareness and training in self-appraisal and self-accountability right from adolescence so that our children become accustomed to and familiarized with these positive traits and habits from childhood to combat corruption in a more positive and practical manner towards a better and brighter society. Students while sharing their opinion presented a common consensus that we must know the difference between right and wrong, should address disparity, must refrain from illegal gratification, discourage minor acts of corruption and advocated for their teacher that inculcating good behavior from adolescence facilitates children to grow into mature and responsible adults.
This is for the third time that students at IoBM have organized an anti-corruption awareness program. In April 2018, Mr. Mohammad Altaf Bawany, the-then Director General, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Karachi was the Chief Guest at NAB-HEC-IoBM Anti-Corruption Awareness Seminar and Walk at IoBM. In December 2016, IoBM students of Public Relations invited Dr. Akhlaque Ahmed, the-then Director, QEC, IoBM, at Anti-corruption Awareness session.
During his visit at the Anti-Corruption Awareness Seminar and Walk at IoBM in April 2018, Mr. Mohammad Altaf Bawany, while delivering “Anti-Corruption Awareness Insights and Initiatives” urged upon the youth to vote for such leaders who uphold merit for top positions in the making of better laws and policies for the public. He stressed upon the academia to establish think tanks, conduct research and disseminate this research among the public in collaboration with the media. He talked of character building for youth; pinning high hopes in the future architects of Pakistan.
