International Conference on Current Research Areas for Continuing Professional Development

An International Conference was held on November 13, 2021, at the Electrical Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Sciences, IoBM. Dr. Seema Ansari introduced the International Speakers, Dr. Enrique Nava Baro and Dr. Pablo Otero Roth, Associate Professors from the University of Malaga, Spain to the faculty and students. Dr. Enrique Nava Baro is a Ph.D. in Telecommunication Engineering from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM), Madrid, Spain and Dr. Pablo Otero Roth received the Ingeniero de Telecommunication degree B.S., M.S. and the Ph.D. degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. Dr. Enrique Nava Baro delivered a talk on “Digital medical image techniques: from classic to deep learning” in which he explained the increasing use of radiological imaging in its various classical modalities (digital radiography, computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, nuclear medicine) or the most recent (tomosynthesis, multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging, 4D ultrasound, PET) has meant an increase in interest in digital image treatment techniques to aid in the diagnosis and creation of computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems that, in recent years, have been migrating towards systems based on deep learning techniques. This class presents the basic elements of CAD systems as well as some examples of the evolution from classical digital image processing to modern deep learning techniques. Dr. Pablo Otero Roth talked about the current trends in research areas and tips for Ph.D. scholars related to underwater communications. The Conference ended with the vote of thanks to the speakers and distribution of CPD certificates to the faculty and mementos to the Speakers.
