The US Consulate General Karachi, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship and Management Excellence Center (EMEC), Institute of Business Management (IoBM), organized a presentation by Dr. Andrew Scheuermann on the topic “Finance for Entrepreneurs” on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the EMEC with its state-of-the-art facilities.
Besides US Consulate officials including Mr. Daniel Lee, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer and Mr. Ali Chauhan, Cultural Affairs Manager, this program was attended by IoBM students, faculty, Deans and management. Dr. Scheuermann and his team were received by Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Dean, CBM and CES, HoDs and faculty of the Institute.
During this presentation Dr. Andrew Scheuermann focused on the theme: How to source, manage and multiply capital with such modules as accounting 101 for startups, finding the right kind of capital, how to think like a venture capitalist, tactics of fundraising for high-risk ventures, fundraising and accounting at each stage of the venture lifecycle and multiplier business model. His talk revolved around fundraising, startup accounting, leveraging business model and financial pyramid. Moreover, Dr. Scheuermann quoted personal examples of being an entrepreneur with a high-risk startup like Arch.
While speaking on this occasion, Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder emphasized upon IoBM’s four year, full-fledged BS in Social Entrepreneurship and Social Leadership program which inspires and equips graduates to create sustainable social enterprises in problem-solving and decision-making. He highlighted the importance of multidimensional thinking, entrepreneur’s ability to cut across various fields and how interfering boundaries between fields generates business ideas.
Dr. Scheuermann, a Ph.D from Stanford University, is involved in entrepreneurship education. He was one of the early team members that built StartX, one of the top startup accelerators in the world. He is skilled in venture fundraising and is one of the ‘fundraising architects’ in the StartX community to help founders who have raised over $2 billion. He also helped start the Stanford Entrepreneurship Network, Stanford startup weekend, and the Accel Innovations Scholars program. He is the founder of a venture-backed company, Arch Systems, in the sensing automation space. Dr. Scheuermann co-wrote a book on venture formation and developed a general model from helping hundreds of Stanford companies.
