Workshop on Predictive Maintenance held at IoBM

The Entrepreneurship and Management Excellence Center (EMEC) and the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) organized a workshop on "Advanced Predictive Maintenance Using AI, Data Visualization, and Power BI" on August 27-28, 2025. The workshop facilitators were Mr. Mehboob Karim and Dr. Imran Batada.

Mr. Karim, a Subject Matter Advisor for Digital Asset Performance Management (DAPM), is also a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada, and a senior member of the Pakistan Engineering Council. Dr. Batada is the Chief Digital Officer and Director of the Center for Information and Technology at IoBM.

This two-day workshop provided a practical methodology for implementing the IoT framework using intelligent connectivity of smart devices through the internet. Using real-life case studies, the workshop explained and demonstrated various digital technologies that could be instrumental in building an end-to-end digital maintenance solution. It also helped participants understand how adopting digital technologies could uplift the performance of their critical assets.

The workshop aimed to provide participants with a framework to successfully implement IoT and innovative machine concepts to analyze, visualize, and model machine data for timely decision-making. Key topics included: Familiarizing Participants with the Latest Technologies, Enhancing Operational Performance, Optimizing Business Processes, Timely Decision-Making, and Harnessing Data Visualization and Modelling.

The workshop attracted a diverse group of professionals and industry experts, offering them valuable insights from both academic and industry leaders in IoT and maintenance management. Attendees gained practical, hands-on experience by learning about real-world projects with measurable outcomes. The key topics covered included connectivity, where participants learned about sensors and the design of hardware and software; acquisition, which focused on how to gather machine data and notify staff for timely action; data analysis, which involved using cloud services for real-time monitoring; and data visualization, where they were taught to use a Graphic User Interface (GUI) to spot data trends and assist technicians in making informed decisions. The workshop proceedings were facilitated by Umair Kirmani, Business Development Executive.
