Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights
Where Intellectual Property (IP) refers to the creation of the intellect for which an exclusive right is assigned to designated owners by law, Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) are the protections granted to the creators of IP. They include Trademarks, Copyrights, Patents, Industrial Design Rights, Layout Designs and Integrated Circuits, Geographical Indications and Plant Breeder’s Rights.
The office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) of the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) organized a workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights: Awareness and Procedures” on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Entrepreneurship and Management Excellence Center (EMEC), IoBM. Besides the presence of Professor Dr. Amanat Ali Jalbani, Adviser to President and Head of OGS and Research, IoBM and Mr. Muhammad Tariq, Manager/Coordinator, ORIC-IoBM, the workshop was attended by HoDs, members of faculty and management.
The objective of this workshop was to provide awareness and procedure for filing the application for patent, copyrights, trademark etc. It provided pertinent insights to the faculty, especially those of Engineering and IT, and to researchers of Social Sciences regarding awareness about intellectual property rights, need for protection of IP, types of IPs and filing procedure and requirements.
This workshop was conducted by Syed Nasrullah, Deputy Director, Intellectual Property Organization (IPO), Government of Pakistan. Syed Nasrullah has been associated with Intellectual Property Organization since 2006 and has previously served as its Controller of Patents and Deputy Registrar. Syed Nasrullah has attended various international training courses and represented IPO Pakistan at various international and national forums. He has worked for 5 years in petrochemical industry before joining IPO Pakistan in 2006.
