ALI JAHANGIR SIDDIQUI ENLIGHTENS FUTURE LEADERS AND ENTREPRENEURS

Mr. Ali Jahangir Siddiqui, spirit and soul behind the JS Bank success story, now Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Ambassador-Designate to USA, visited the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Mr. Ali Jahangir Siddiqui participated in an interactive session moderated by Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Dean CBM and CES, IoBM at the Entrepreneurship and Management Excellence Center (EMEC), IoBM. Besides the presence of IoBM’s Mr. Talib Karim, President; Mr. Najmuddin A. Shaikh, Head of Global and Regional Studies Center; Prof. Dr. Amanat Ali Jalbani, Advisor to President and HoD Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and Graduate Studies, CEOs from the JS Group, the event was well-attended by students, faculty, HoDs, Deans, faculty and management.

Mr. Ali Jahangir Siddiqui expressed his delight upon visiting IoBM and held the Institute in high regard. While responding to a question regarding his experience as an entrepreneur, he said, that entrepreneurship is a journey and that as you grow you evolve, meet people and make new enterprises. He said that people are important for all his ventures and provided an insight that entrepreneurship in Pakistan is fulfilling because it is relatively easy to expand your enterprises in growing markets such as Pakistan.

 When replying to a question on cultures in companies, Mr. Siddiqui said that a company must have a self-reflective culture and this culture stems from the vision of the company’s leaders. He said it is the job of the employers is to instruct and train the employees and that ejecting the least-productive employee out of the company should be the last resort. Referring to the culture of JS Bank, Mr. Siddiqui said it follows a culture of openness and accessibility to superiors. Everyone must respect and follow the chain of command, however, he mentioned, subordinates at JS Bank can meet their superiors, receive mentorship and advice with ease. Mr. Siddiqui said that transparency and compensation based on performance must also be part of the company’s culture. While sharing his views on financial aspects when managing an enterprise, Mr. Siddiqui said that it is imperative to maintain a positive cash flow, especially for start-ups for it helps them build their business and capture the market.

Mr. Siddiqui advised students not to be carried away by criticism, generally reflective of the current social media trend and that our students need to focus on being doers, doing positive things as when and where opportunities arise. He further advised students to connect with the JS Group present on this occasion as a prospect for mentorship and career avenues. JS Bank, emphasized Mr. Siddiqui, is a technology-oriented company providing financial services which are enjoyable and convenient for the users as its culture attracts graduates from across Pakistan and provides them with career growth and excellence.
