Basic Education Strategy for Pakistan launched at IoBM

The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) hosted a presentation by the Education Committee of C100 Think Tank followed by a press conference on “Strategy to Transform Basic Education System in Pakistan”. The objective of this event, held at the IoBM Auditorium on Saturday, September 08, 2018, was to launch the policy paper on “Basic Education Strategy for Pakistan” written by Dr. Amjad Waheed, CEO National Fullerton Asset Management Limited (NAFA) and Syed Asad Ali Shah, Managing Partner, Deloitte, on behalf of the C100 Think Tank’s Education Committee. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Shahid Afridi.

 Besides the presence of IoBM’s Mr. Talib Karim, President; Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Dean, CBM and CES; Deans, students, faculty, management and HoDs, this event was largely attended by key government officials and corporate executives including Mr. Zeshan Afzal, Founding President and Managing Director, C100 Think Tank, Global CEO, Shahid Afridi Foundation and Founding Chairman, StationeryX; Mr. Feroz Khan, Chairman, Omar Jibran Group; Dr. Amjad Waheed, CEO, ‎National Fullerton Asset Management Limited (NAFA); Syed Asad Ali Shah, Managing Partner, Deloitte; Mr. Amin Hashwani, Founder, Charter for Compassion Pakistan and Mr. Shamsuddin Shaikh, CEO, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company.

 Dr. Amjad Waheed and Syed Asad Ali Shah, while presenting their policy paper, emphasized upon the background and present state of education in Pakistan, constitutional and legal requirements on education, strategy to reform the public sector education governance, strategy of public funding private education under public-private partnership and non-formal education.

Mr. Shahid Afridi, while speaking on the occasion said that the technically sound, educated and professional people must be employed on key positions to develop Sindh’s education sector. He pledged his support for C100 Think Tank and vowed to serve Pakistan to the best of his capabilities. Mr. Shahid Afridi further said that we all must own Pakistan and work individually to bring a collection social change.

During the event, Mr. Feroze Khan officially declared Mr. Shahid Afridi as the Ambassador of the Education Committee of C100 Think Tank and presented him with a shield. At this moment, C100 Think Tank also announced to donate Rs. 4.5 million to Shahid Afridi Foundation.

Earlier, in his speech, Mr. Zeshan Afzal introduced the theme of the event and shared the history of C100 Think Tank. He said that he along with C100 members envision to bring a tangible change in the education sector of Pakistan. He gave due credit to Mr. Talib Karim, Mr. Feroze Khan, Mr. Amin Hashwani, and Syed Asad Ali Shah who made it possible for C100 Think Tank to host this launch event of the policy paper.

During his speech, Mr. Feroz Khan highlighted key educational reforms the C100 Think Tank wants to achieve in areas including adult literacy, early childhood development, basic/elementary education, secondary and higher secondary education, technical education, vocational training, special education for the mentally and physically challenged and others. He was hopeful that with the guidance of the public and private sectors the C100 Think Tank’s Education Committee would achieve its desired objectives.

Mr. Zeshan Afzal also moderated a panel discussion. Panelists included were Mr. Feroze Khan, Mr. Shahid Afridi, Mr. Amjad Waheed, Mr. Asad Ali Shah, Mr. Amin Hashwani and Mr. Shamsuddin Shaikh. Panelists presented their ideas pertaining to the development of Pakistan’s educational sector especially that of less-privileged areas. The panelists opined that now it time to act on their plans and take Pakistan towards a better and brighter future.
