Sustainable Living Society (SLS) of the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), in collaboration with the Earth Day Network, the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, in nearly 195 countries, organized the “United Nations International Mother Earth Day” on its campus on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in a joint initiative with the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). Mr. Talib Karim, President IoBM and Mr. Basheer Janmohammed, Chancellor IoBM and Chairman of Dalda Foods guided and helped the cause of this event.
CEO’s, Chairmen and Directors both from the public and private sector companies came and paired with students from across the city to plant trees at the IoBM campus; including the Consulate of Japan, National Accountability Bureau, Karachi, Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Sindh Enterprise Development Fund, Mitsubishi Corporation, Careem and so on. Prominent educational institutions such as Karachi Grammar School, Mama Parsi, The City School, Beaconhouse School System, Foundation Public School, amongst 50 other schools, were also present.
A workshop, on the global Earth Day 2018 theme of ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ was also conducted by Ms. Kulsoom Siddiqui, Founder and President of SLS, with five esteemed environmentalists: Mr. Farukh Amil, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva was the Keynote speaker; Mr. Ainul Abedin, Mr. Tofiq Pasha Mooraj, Dr. Nuzhat Khan, along with Dr. Shahid Amjad, who is also the HoD, Environment and Energy Management, IoBM and has been an elected UN representative for five years.
