The Department of Communication and Languages, IoBM held a ‘Readers’ Club’ session at Library Building, IoBM on Monday, April 24, 2017. Envisioned by Dr. Syed Ifran Hyder, Dean CBM and CES, IoBM, the Club foresees to inculcate the culture of reading at IoBM. The session was largely attended by students, faculty and management. During the session, students of Academic English shared their book reviews, which they read during the Spring Semester 2017.
The panel of judges invited to this occasion to rate and evaluate the student’s book reviews were Ms. Aine Arfin, Head of Bay View High School, Ms. Sabiha Siddiqi, Head of English Department, Bay View High School and IoBM’s Ms. Aliya Sikander, HoD, Communication Department and Mr. Ejaz Wasay, HoD, Media Studies. Also present at the occasion were IoBM Communication Department’s Mr. Syed Muhammad Sajid Siraj, Senior Lecturer and Mr. Muhammad Asif Khan, Assistant Professor.
During her welcome address, Ms. Shumaila Omar, Senior Lecturer, Communication Department, IoBM welcomed the panel of judges and introduced the theme of the session. She informed that the objective of this thought-provoking session was to enable students to share their views and opinions on the review of the books that they had read during the semester.
The group of students from Academic English reviewing their choice of books at the Readers’ Club session were as follows: Group A: “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini; Group B: “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini: Group C: “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott; Group D: “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini; Group E: “Matilda” by Roald Dahl and Group F: “Prisoner of Zenda” by Anthony Hope.
Readers’ Club at IoBM, as such, emerges, besides contemporary trends in business management and allied disciplines and new horizons in experiential learning, as a harmonious blend of reviving the indispensable culture of reading, creative thinking and writing, exploring the intellectual heritage of men of letters and eulogizing mind-boggling lessons from the hardcore realities of life indeed.
