Among the highlights of the IoBM Literature Festival 2018 was the launch of Mr. Sagheer Ahmed’s collection of poems, Umangein Jawan Rahen. This book by Mr. Sagheer Ahmed, an IoBM visiting faculty, comprises 119 poems covering 137 pages. Mr. Sagheer has to his credit three other collections of poems titled: Phool Khilte hain Khizan mein bhi , Shama Toofan mein bhi Jalti hai and Baharen Phir bhi Aaengi. The fifth collection of poems named: Manzil Dour Nahin is yet to be published.
The Literary and Public Speaking Society (LPSS) at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) organized the inaugural edition of the IoBM Literature Festival (ILF) on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Convocation Area. This event had full support and guidance of Mr. Talib Karim, President IoBM, Ms. Sabina Mohsin, Executive Director, AAF, Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Dean CBM and CES, IoBM and Mr. Sahar Ansari, an eminent poet. With the ILF 2018, LPSS aims to emphasize the influence of literature in modern society. Included in the ILF 2018 were panel discussion, speakers sessions, cultural musical performance, ghazal night and book fair. The ILF 2018 was largely-attended by students, faculty, management and office bearers of the LPSS, IoBM.
Scheduled at the ILF 2018 were two panel discussions and three speaker sessions. Panel Discussion – 1 invited as panelists Mr. Ajmal Kamal, Mr. Pirzada Salman, Dr. Adrian A. Hussain and Syed Kashif Raza to speak on “We know that east is east and west is west, but is there some common ground between modern Urdu poetry and English and American verse?” Invited to moderate this discussion was Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder.
Invited for Panel Discussion – 2 were Mr. Javed Jabbar, Mr. Rashid Ashraf, Mr. Shahrukh Nadeem, Mr. Jibran Nasir and Dr. Syed Jaffer Ahmed who discussed on the topic “How is the nexus between Journalism, Politics and Social Media affecting our lives?” Mr. Salman Tarik Qureshi was invited to moderate this session.
Speaker Session – 1 invited Mr. Hussain Samdani and Mr. Jaffar Ahmed to speak on “Why is that we don’t see the likes of Faiz Ahmed Faiaz anywhere on the horizon today?”. Speaker Session – 2 invited Mr. Imrana Maqsood to speak on the topic “Uljhay Suljhay Maqsood”, a book she wrote on Mr. Anwar Maqsood. Speaker Session – 3 invited Mr. Yousaf Bashir Qureshi to speak on “Sufism in today’s world”. While singer Ammar Ali Khan presented soulful melodies in the Ghazal session, Hassan Jan Warsi was part of the Khattak session. To pay tribute to Juan Elia, ILF 2018 held a “Mehfil-E-Elia” in which speakers invited were Mr. Pirzada Salman, Ms. Shaista Mufti and Mr. Qaiser Wajdi.
