The Institute of Business Management's Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a seminar on "Intellectual Property Rights Protection in Pakistan" on November 28, 2023. The esteemed speaker invited to share insights on the topic was Ms. Saima Kanwal, a Senior Patent Examiner at the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan. Present on this occasion from IoBM were Dr. Seema Ansari, Advisor to the Rector; Dr. Akhlaq, Director ORIC; Dr. Shahid Amjad, HoD, Environment and Energy Management; Dr. Muhammad Arif, Director Research; along with HoDs, faculty and management.
The seminar focused on understanding the fundamental concepts of intellectual property rights and the legal and administrative framework of IPRs in Pakistan. During her engaging and thought-provoking session, Ms. Saima discussed various types of intellectual property rights, emphasizing their significance and how they can prove beneficial for researchers and entrepreneurs. She also explained the legal and administrative aspects of intellectual property protection at both national and international levels. Furthermore, Ms. Saima shared valuable insights on selecting a strong trademark for business and products. She also guided the drafting of a patent application to seek patent protection in Pakistan. The seminar proved to be an informative platform for participants to enhance their understanding of Intellectual Property Rights and their practical applications to create a unique brand identity.
The seminar on "Intellectual Property Rights Protection in Pakistan," organized by the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) at IoBM, foster a deeper understanding of intellectual property rights (IPR), the event supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting innovation and encouraging the protection of intellectual property, which fosters technological progress and sustainable industrialization.
