A four-member team representing Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) conducted an on-campus visit to review the Electrical Engineering Department’s Outcome-Based Accreditation (OBA) visit for the batch of 2015 onwards.
The team comprised of academics having a vast array of expertise in Control Systems, Signal Processing and Communication Systems from universities including Capital University of Science & Technology (CUST), Islamabad; University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and COMSATS University.
The PEC visiting team was warmly received by HEI representatives including the Head of Department, Electrical Engineering, Dr. Muhammad Imran Majid; Associate Dean, College of Engineering and Sciences (CES), Dr. Seema Ansari and Rector, IoBM, Dr. Irfan Hyder along with faculty members. All documentation was available and presentations by the HEI representatives were very informational. The team met with the groups of employers with alumni and students. This is the first OBA-based accreditation visit to IoBM. The strategic goals identified for the Electrical Engineering Department’s improvement were presented and adaptation of OBA accreditation for curricula and conduction of labs were identified.
All nine criterions of PEC accreditation were met. The evaluators were impressed by the addition of Maker’s space, innovative desk space for students inspired by Maker’s Space managed by Surrey Ears at University of Surrey Guildford, UK. This was the first time that such a concept was introduced in Pakistan. The discussions with various stakeholder groups revealed common themes providing insights into the Electrical Engineering Department’s positive culture. The IoBM’s Environmental Health Safety (EHS) policy inspired by the Departmental EHS policy, lab demonstration policy, and the excellent infrastructure was well appreciated. The two-day event closed with a recommendation for enhancing outreach and furthering research and facilities to make the Institution at par with international standards and to enable accreditation in line with Washington Accord.
