Workshop on Writing Skills at IoBM

The Department of Communication and Languages at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) invited Mr. Mohsin Tejani, Founder and CEO, The School of Writing as a guest speaker to conduct a workshop on writing in Room 314, CBM Building, on Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

Besides the presence of Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Dean CBM and CES, this event was attended by the faculty of Department of Communication and Languages including Dr. Fauzia Shamim, Senior Fellow, Ms. Aliya Sikander, Assistant Professor and Sheikh Muhammad Irfan, Assistant Professor, Syed Muhammad Sajid Siraj, Senior Lecturer. It was also attended by well over 100 students.

This interactive workshop proved to be an inspiring activity both for students and faculty. The ideas presented in the workshop by Mr. Mohsin Tejani were highly appreciated by Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, the driving force behind interactive and career-focused workshops.

Mr. Mohsin Tejani engaged students in writing activities who were given a writing prompt each. Students were encouraged to use their “senses” to write about Karachi without the fear of making mistakes. They were also motivated to ‘publish’ their writings online by mutual sharing through blog writing. An activity titled ‘Free Writing’ was conducted to help students overcome the proverbial ‘writer’s block’.

Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder encouraged both students and teachers to start their own blogs to develop the habit of writing and use writing as a means of expressing their thoughts and opinions. It is hoped that some of these innovative ideas will be picked up by the students and will be developed further in writing for projects.
